{"id":701,"date":"2013-04-23T20:28:29","date_gmt":"2013-04-23T13:28:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thewindmillrestaurant.net\/?page_id=701"},"modified":"2022-10-05T01:13:29","modified_gmt":"2022-10-04T18:13:29","slug":"army-advisors","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/scarngavpicthistory.com\/?page_id=701","title":{"rendered":"Army Advisors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">ARMY Advisers<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a01947 &#8211; CPT William Hale was the first Army Advisor to report for duty during the winter of \u201847-\u201848.\u00a0When he arrived he was rated and current to flew the L-16\u2019s.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8211;\u00a0Bob Lee<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">1961-1963 &#8211; MAJ Claude H. Murphy\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u2013\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0After two years as the advisor to the aviation program in South Carolina, he was assigned to\u00a0duty at\u00a0Ft Benning, Ga. to participate in the development of the air assault concept.\u00a0 At the completion of the\u00a0air assault being developed, Maj. Murphy\u00a0went on to RVN to\u00a0implement and further\u00a0evaluate the concept.\u00a0 He\u00a0returned to South Carolina in 1966 to again become the aviation adviser for South Carolina.\u00a0\u00a0He worked for Gen. Pinckney and\u00a0became a good friend with Boots Oliver.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8211; MAJ\u00a0Subota &#8211; \u00a0Ft McClellan<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">1966-1968\u00a0 &#8211;\u00a0MAJ Claude H. Murphy returned from duty at Ft. Benning and RVN to again serve as the Army Adviser to the South Carolina Army Aviation Program.\u00a0 He retired from the Army and continued working for the Guard until he completely retired.\u00a0 Since retirement he has worked many hours and days assisting people with health issues through Hospice.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">1968 &#8211; 1970 &#8211; LTC William P. Griffin &#8211;\u00a0 LTC Griffin came to SCARNG as an advisor to aviation at a time when the aviation company was transitioning from fixed wing to rotary aircraft.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/strong><strong style=\"font-size: revert;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">He volunteered for duty in Vietnam in 1966 and was the company commander of the 281st Assault Helicopter Company, amassing over 1800 hours of combat flight time.\u00a0 \u00a0On his return from Vietnam in 1967, he was assigned to Ft Rucker as the Chief of the Tactics Department.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">His final assignment was as the advisor to SC National Guard in Columbia, where he retired in 1970.\u00a0 Upon his retirement, he was rated in numerous aircraft both fixed and rotor wing.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-5414\" src=\"https:\/\/scarngavpicthistory.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Griffin-247x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"162\" height=\"197\" srcset=\"https:\/\/scarngavpicthistory.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Griffin-247x300.jpg 247w, https:\/\/scarngavpicthistory.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Griffin.jpg 412w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 162px) 100vw, 162px\" \/><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">1970 0601 &#8211; 1976 &#8211; LTC Dave Starkey &#8211;<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">1976 &#8211; 1979 \u00a0&#8211;\u00a0LTC Wesley B. Avery\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 &#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0LTC Avery\u00a0was drafted in 1958.\u00a0 He began his\u00a0career\u00a0 as a\u00a0 2LT Infantry Officer in 1960\u00a0but quickly switched over from infantry to aviation.\u00a0\u00a0On his first of two RVN tours\u00a0he \u00a0served with the 1st Cav in1968 and served with the 1st Aviation Brigade on his second tour 1970 where he\u00a0commanded the 117th Assault Helicopter Company.\u00a0 After his three year assignment as the Army Advisor his next duty assignment took him\u00a0to\u00a0Ft.
